Food Porn: Are You Ready To Take A Stand?

Posted by Taiwan Festival on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, In : TW Food

Food Porn is new to me.

I heard of it only recently, but since then I have been hearing it a lot. Articles in the press, websites, blogs, advertisements. Chefs who fight against it. Chefs who defend it. Lawyers who say it’s legal. Lawyers who say it isn’t.

Food Porn seems to be “in,” if we’re to believe social media and the thousands of food photos uploaded daily to Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and others for millions of Food Porn addicts to salivate over. Then there are the countle...

Author Megan Eaves noted that many of Taiwan's dishes are hybrid creations that blend Portuguese, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese culinary traditions to represent the different cultural influences over Taiwan's long history of colonization.

Bao: The Taiwanese street food trio loved for their gua bao obsession

Posted by Taiwan Festival on Friday, March 14, 2014, In : TW Food

Bao Bar is not like any kerb-side food outlet I’ve visited before. Its six-seater bar is more like an atmospheric timber-clad room than a food van. From this small but perfectly formed space, Bao serves unforgettable Tawainese xiao chi or small eats.

The highlight is the gua bao, steamed buns filled with pork belly, homemade pickles, peanut shavings and coriander from which they take their name. It’s all a far cry from the gnarly American burgers and pneumatic hot dogs that first caused a ...

Taiwanese Seafood

Taiwan is surrounded by the sea, and ocean currents flow past and converge just off the island’s coast, creating good fishing grounds and enriching Taiwan’s marine resources. In addition, research on and advances in breeding technology have improved the variety and quality of seafood available in Taiwan, giving people more choices when selecting seafood as an ingredient. Seafood has thus become an indispensable element of daily fare in Taiwan.

Considering Taiwan’s seafood recipes and its...
